We enjoy camping at this park and look forward to our return trips. Kids are well entertained with their daily activities and, unlike a lot of other parks, the activities do not cost any thing creating happy parents. The campground was very family friendly and the staff was great. New rules this year are wrist banks for everyone entering the park. This was a bit of a nuisance to adults but proved to be helpful with lost kids. My only complaints are the park is very sandy and the pool was a bit chilly.
Cute little mom & pop campground located on Lake Nepessing. Great fishing for the guys and a Kohl's only 2 miles away for the ladies! Nice mature shady, grassy sites. Our site was level, however some others looked a bit tricky. Small playground for the kids, small beach area. They rent boats of all kinds and have a nicely stocked camp store. Campground was clean and quiet. Lots of security with cameras and key gates.
We camp here quite often, as this is our favorite campground!! The sites are level, the campground is clean and wooded. There is lots for kids to do and they never seem to be bored here. Nice bike riding throughout the park and bike trails to take you to the grocery store in town. Our only complaint is the pools are small for the size of the campground and unheated. The pools are unsupervised and too many kids are in the pool at a time making it dangerous, as there have been a couple incidents already. They have a jumping pillow for kids however there is a fee for the kids to use it. Train rides are nice ($1 a ride), good weekend entertainment, clean, hot showers. I would recommend this campground over any campground I have seen yet.
We stayed here as a "guest" for the weekend for the price of a sales tour. Having heard about the membership and costs, we were disappointed in the cleanliness/maintance around the campground. They recently added new sites on to the park and those are much roomier with concrete patios with some shade trees. The roads are dirt in this area and became very dusty. Sites in the older section were crowded and small but shady with blacktop roads. They have an outdoor pool (did not feel heated) and a nice heated indoor pool. There is a beach area, putt putt golf course, playground, recreation building, basketball, volleyball, etc. Bathrooms were clean, locker rooms by the indoor pool needed some attention. It is a long hike from the campsites to the area where the activities are, luckily we had bikes. They do not rent bikes or golf carts but you can bring them with you. The kayaks, row boats, paddle boats are all free along with most activities in the park. Lots for kids to do here but again they are quite a distance from the campsites. For the amount they charge for membership and annual dues we expected a "top of the line" campground with concrete sites, roads and a nice campstore and restaurant. They had a small grill by the outdoor pool with reasonably priced food but that always was hot inside and lines of people with only 1 staff waiting on them. Staff was polite as long as they thought they might have a sale. For the sales tour they pick you up in a golf cart and take you to the front of the park (approx 1 mile) After the sales tour if you do not purchase into it, they send you walking back to your site. We had 2 little kids which was a long walk for them. Overall: Disappointing for the $6000 they change for membership with $425 annual maintence fees.
Nice roomy sites and wide streets. Most all sites are sod and are level as long as its dry and has not rained. Camp store is the best I've seen yet. The offer homemade bakery goods from a local bakery in Harbor Beach. The bread is awesome! Bathrooms/showers were clean but few and far between. We camped on Memorial Day weekend, which was a full campground and again in August which was only about 1/3 full. Neither time did we see security or staff members anywhere within the park (other than the main buildings up front). There is a 24-hour phone number to call if any problems. The pool is small for the number of campsites. If you are looking for a shady campground, this is not the place for you. There are no shade trees through 90% of the park which allows the wind to whip right through. The sites in the back of the park do seem to be less windy than the sites in the front of the park. We would like to see more bathrooms, security through the park, and activities (ie: playground, pool) in the back of the park. It will be a nice campground once the trees mature.
This is a new campground which just opened in 2007. We were impressed with all the activities they have to offer which include paddle boats ($8/hr), row boats, nice outdoor pool, and putt putt golf. They have 3 small lakes (which are old gravel pits that are spring fed) Although we did not stay on a weekend, the weekend activities seem to be very nice. They did offer discounted rental rates during weekdays. The staff did a wonderful job of keeping the bathrooms clean. The negatives: sites were unlevel, most of the park is W/E sites with only 14 W/E/S sites that are non shaded area, staff not very friendly, the roads through the park are uneven w/potholes. There is a working gravel pit by the tent/rustic section and tractors were noisy in that area all day long. Security was all over the park and did a good job keeping traffic slow and escorting you to the site upon check in. Despite the few negatives, this is a great overall campground and we will be returning.
Nice wooded, hilly campground however the sites were all dirt/sand. No grass in the entire campground. They have wood chips in the sites to cut down on dust/dirt but still was a problem. Staff was very accommodating when something was needed. Top notch job in keeping groups/kids quiet after quiet time. Pool was not heated. (if it was it was still pretty cold!) There are planned activities for the kids but with no grass in the campground, kids were very dirty by the end of the day. Price was very high for what you get. Oh and the best part.....they charge a 50 cent fee for showers which we think is crazy after paying $47 a night. If you are headed to Traverse City, I would keep looking for another campground. The State Park looked nicer for half the price.
Very nice well kept campground. Numerous activities for the kids to do including visits from Yogi, Boo-Boo, Ranger, etc. It was nice to see these activities (e.g., jumping pillow) did not cost money to participate. This park is all about the kids without breaking their parents' wallets. Camp sites are spacious with 75% grass. Owners & staff are very friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to many return visits!!
The campground just opened in May. Very few things were ready. The sites had very little grass (mostly mud). Kids playground was still under mud, many areas with no grass yet and mud. The trees are very small and there is no shade or any large trees anywhere in the park. The sites are spacious however becoming rutted. Restrooms/showers were very clean however did not seem to be enough of them of the number of sites at this park. The showers shut off every 20 seconds and you have to constantly push the button to turn them back on. The water temperature also is not adjustable. Pool was not finished yet. Game room/pool table room was nice. Washer/dryers were not hooked up yet. Children play areas were not accessable due to lack of grass/sand/etc because all the mud. The web site showed a very nice list of planned activities, however upon check in we were given a very small list of planned aactivities. Only 1 of which was the same as the web site. We felt like we were in a huge open farm field camping. We left a day early due to lack of activities. We were very disappointed & would not recommend this campground. Too many amenities were unavailable/not ready for the campers.
Park is nicely wooded. Sites were sand/grassy and campers can be parked in any direction. The pool was a nice size and warm. Biggest problems was the unclean bathrooms/showers and lack of security. There were a lot of unsupervised teenagers, lots of drinking, obscenities. This went on until after 3am. Bathrooms and showers were dirty and in great need of painting. Kids enjoyed the basketball court and the outdoor movies that are shown on weekends. Could be a very nice campground if they enforced a "quiet time" and cleaned up the bathrooms.
We camp at this KOA often. It is close to home and our kids LOVE it here. Lots of activities for them to do and great relaxation for parents. Sites are nice and level and shady in the older section. We have never camped in the new section and prefer not to due to lack of mature trees. Bathrooms/showers are clean. Expect kids/adults to be cutting thru campsites which we do not mind. Staff and manager are very helpful. This is our favorite family campground. The only problem we found was the heavily used train tracks in the rear of the property. Trains come through all day and night with the whistle.
